President's Message

Welcome to the John M. Langston Bar Association website. We are
here to serve you and hope that as you navigate through our website,
you find useful information. Words can hardly express my excitement
about this coming year for Langston, the oldest and largest African
American Bar Association in California. Our theme this year is
"Honoring our history while embracing our future." By that we mean
that Langston will honor its history by acknowledging those dynamic
African American legal minds whose tireless efforts and many
sacrifices gave us a platform to thrive. For that, we say Thank You.
We will also honor our history by advancing the mission of Langston's
founders:
- Promoting the social and economic well-being of its members;
- Promoting ethical standards in the practice and an adherence to
legal competence in the members of the profession through
continuing education; and
- Improving relations between the legal profession and the
community at large.
We will embrace our future by investing in the youth of our
community. We are extremely proud to give nearly $12,000 in
scholarships this year to very worthy law students. We are also
extremely proud to sponsor college tours for local junior high school
students, and Law Day where we introduce young students to the Los
Angeles Superior Court so they can observe courtrooms in action. We
are also sponsoring a health fair and providing anti-violence
counseling, financial guidance and mentoring programs for our youth.
We intend to be very busy. This year, Langston has more than a
dozen busy committees, each of which is very committed to serving
the needs of the community and our organization. But we need YOU
in order to flourish. Every voice matters and we want to hear yours.
We encourage you to get involved in Langston. Most important, if you
have an idea, please share it with us. We would love to hear from
you. Please know that you are apart of our rich history and our
future. We thank you for your continued support.
If you have recently renewed your membership, Thank You. We also
encourage you to become a Lifetime Member. If you've overlooked
payment of your dues or are not yet a member of Langston, you can
join online today on our Membership Page. This is going to be an
awesome year for Langston and with your support, can be even
better! Help us to continue to "Honor our history while embracing our
future."
Thank you.
