President's Message

We are now more than halfway through the year, and what a year it has been so far. We are living in unprecedented, challenging, and revealing times. This year has shown us that a reset was necessary. We have started the process. We have started the dialogue. However, there is much more work for us to do now that the fight to eliminate the pervasiveness of systemic racism and oppression is ongoing in the midst of a global pandemic. The shift is palpable. How we live, how we practice law, how we treat each other…all will be reexamined moving forward.
While there are still many uncertainties, we owe it to our members and the community to forge ahead. We, as lawyers and professionals, must take the lead in developing innovative ideas and tools to influence change and push progress. We have the opportunity to have an impact on how our community rises up to the current challenges and how our profession pivots in light of them. We must embrace this role. History awaits our next move.
We are resilient. We shall overcome. Together.
With hope,
Nyanza Shaw, Esq.
President, John M. Langston Bar Association
